We are pleased to offer for sale this UK supplied 911 3.0 SC Targa with just 26,000 miles and only 3 owners from new.
Launched in October 1977 the SC was the first 911 to use the stronger Turbo based 930 engine and fully galvanized body.
It could initially be specified as a sports model with front and rear spoilers, 16” Fuchs wheels, de-chromed brightwork which was fashionable at the time. However, it could also be specified without these options for a more delicate appearance, and this example was specified without the sports pack from new. Features of the non-sport model included period brightwork around the windows and headlights, spoiler delete and 15” cookie cutter wheels offering arguably the more desirable appearance today.
It was supplied to Mr Briten of Tunbridge Wells on the 29th of June 1978 by Malaya Garage. Finished in Mocca with a tan leatherette/ cloth interior, the colour combination it still wears today and even features its original matching numbers engine and gearbox, together with its original interior, external panels and Targa roof panel.
Aside from a recent fully documented glass out respray by us to restore aged paintwork, and mechanical maintenance/ reversible upgrades, this SC is still in original condition and specification.
It has a documented history file from new, received a top end rebuild at 17,000 miles to replace the original ageing head studs with the later 993 items. The car has recently received a new SSI exhaust system, Motolita steering wheel, Classic Retrofit CDI box, fuse board, and Porsche Classic radio. The original radio and steering wheel will be supplied with the car.
It is fair to say you would go a long way to find a more original SC, but the standout feature for us is the way it drives. It is taught and precise together with a watertight and quiet roof which are indeed rare features on a 40-year-old Targa.
Scarcity is, of course, the key to future residual strength of any classic car and this SC still in its original specification with just 26,000 miles from new represents a sound investment as well as being an enjoyable car to own and drive.
What do we think:
- For: Very original with low mileage and low ownership.
- Against: Some may still prefer the Sport model
